The Cape Point Partnership unveiled a new and improved Flying Dutchman funicular to the tourism trade and media at Cape Point on Tuesday, 8th June 2010.

The massive mast of Cape Point’s Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) station dominates the skyline of its western slopes. Scientists started taking trace gas measurements at the site more than thirty years ago, and in 1995, a fully functional station was built, carefully designed to blend into its surroundings. The research laboratory is maintained by the South African Weather Bureau, together with the Fraunhofer Institute in Garmisch, Germany.

Where do the two oceans meet?
" If you look at the water temperatures of False Bay and of the waters west of Cape Point, there is often a difference of 5-6 degrees in favour of False Bay. This must surely be caused by the Agulhas current. Even the spotted grunter has been caught there. So, Cape Point also has a strong argument. "
